Apple has provided its users with a two-step authentication method for their iMessage or FaceTime accounts to provide users with tighter security.

In 2014, Apple updated its desktop operating system, allowing users that own an iPad, Mac and iPhone devices, to access their iMessages and video calls across all three devices. Now Apple is taking precaution to ensure its users accounts aren't hacked and that their personnel conversations on there remain private. The new feature is optional.

If it is activated, then along with your Apple ID and password, a security code sent via text message to a registered phone number will be provided, in order to be able to access their devices.

The feature was already added to iTunes and ICloud in March 2013.
