Apple might soon be revamping its MacBook Pro later this year, according to a report by MacRumors. The piece quotes notable security analyst Ming-chi Kuo.

The report states the new MacBook Pro will be thinner and lighter, thanks to a redesigned keyboard and the butterfly hinges that appeared in the new MacBook, and will be available in 13-inch and 15-inch models. They are also expected to feature new hybrid USB Type-C ports with Thunderbolt 3 support, as well as TouchID fingerprint scanners.

But the biggest change Kuo suggests is the new MacBook Pro will lose the physical function keys and instead get an “OLED display touch bar”. He goes on to say that this will be the “most significant upgrade ever undertaken by Apple”. The company is supposedly planning to launch the new MacBook Pros in the fourth quarter of this year, alongside a new 13-inch Macbook.

Ming-chi Kuo is a reliable source where Apple is concerned, with a fairly constant record of accurate predictions. Add that to the fact that his statements make some very specific assumptions about the new devices, and you have news that could actually be considered credible. Of course, we’ll only hear about any new MacBook Pros at Apple’s WWDC next month.
