Google has finally started rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for Nexus smartphone and tablet users. The Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C, and General Mobile 4G (Android One) will get an over-the-air software update to Android 7.0 Nougat. Additionally, devices enrolled in the Android Beta Program will also receive this final version.

Google states that there are over 250 major features in Android Nougat. Some of the most prominent ones include new emojis along with multi-locale support, Doze Mode and more.

The company mentioned in a blog post that the upcoming LG V20, will be the first new smartphone that ships with Android Nougat, right out of the box.

We break down the top features you need to look out for in Android 7.0.

1. Multi-window

The multi-window feature seems like a feature which users have been requesting for a while now. With this feature, users can use apps in a split-screen mode and picture-in-picture mode as well. It’s almost like an app, floating around the screen. This feature will also work on tablets and Android-powered TVs.

2. Night Mode

This feature will allow users to have the option to switch to a darker color scheme after sunset, if the white color scheme is unpleasant. There is an option to automatically switch to Night Mode after the sun sets in your area.

3. Doze Mode

Google is making changes to the Doze mode in Android N. Previously, in Android Marshmallow, the Doze mode would not be triggered when it was kept in the pocket/bag. With the new update, this feature will be activated when the screen is turned off. Hence, it will save upon more battery.

4. Notifications

The Notifications bar has been completely redesigned. It will aim to offer notifications with a single minimalized row of settings icons. Additionally, users can also long press a notification and choose whether they would like to block them or display them.

5. Virtual Reality

The company is also launching a brand new platform called Daydream. However, to use the new Android-powered platform, smartphones will need to be Daydream-certified along with the appropriate sensors. At the moment, Google is working on VR-versions of apps such as YouTube, Photos and others.
