84th annual session of National Academy of Science India to begin from December 4 in Jodhpur

The 84th annual session of the National Academy of Science India, will be held from December 4-6, which will see the convergence of nationally renowned scientists here. The session will be held at the New Campus of Jai Narain Vyas University, along with a symposium on "Desert Science: Opportunities and Challenges".

The luminaries to participate in the event include Anil Kakodkar (Member & former Chairman – Atomic Energy Commission), K Kasturirangan (former Chairman – ISRO and member –Planning Commission) and various former presidents of NASI, former directors of various scientific organisations and many others from various institutions of national repute.

Former Secretary of Department of Bio-Technology and former President of National Academy of Science, India, (NASI) Manju Sharma said that the luminaries would be deliberating on issues like bio diversity in Thar desert, its contribution in sustainable agriculture, livestock development in the region, communicable diseases, space technology and desert ecosystem, natural resource management etc, with a sole objective of socio-economic development of the desert region.

Organising  Secretary of the event and head of the Geology department of the university, S C Mathur said that about 500 scientists and research scholars would be presenting their papers in this event.

The last day of the event will also have a Children Science Meet, in which over 300 students from science stream would be addressed by Kakodkar, Kasturirangan, and Sharma. "The objective is to generate interest for science and research among the students," Mathur said.
