From its tallest mountain to its age, we list down some of the most interesting facts about our mother Earth:

1. Earth is approximately 4.54 billion years old according to researchers that measured the Earth’s age by using a technique known as radiometric dating on the oldest rocks and meteorites found on the planet. Researchers studied meteorites in addition to rocks on Earth as it is believed that meteorites and Earth were formed in our solar system at the same time.

2. It may seem like we are not in motion but in reality, most of us are spinning through space at approximately 1,000 miles per hour. People on the Equator are moving the fastest and it slowly tapers off as it reaches the North or South pole. If that's not enough, we are also revolving around the Sun at 107,826 km per hour.

3. According to the United States Geological Survey, the world's largest earthquake had a magnitude of 9.5 and occurred on May 22, 1960 in Chile. It is commonly known as the "Great Chilean Earthquake" or the "1960 Valdivia Earthquake."

4. The hottest place on Earth is El Azizia in Libya. On Sept. 13, 1922, NASA Earth Observatory weather stations’ temperature data showed that the area reach a 136 degrees Fahrenheit (57.8 degrees Celsius)

5. While the coldest place on Earth is Antarctica, where temperatures can reach a chilling below minus 100 degrees F (minus 73 degrees C). According to the United States Geological Survey, on July 21,1983, the lowest temperature on Earth was recorded at 128.6 degrees F (minus 89.2 degrees C) on the Russia's Vostok Station in Antarctica.

6. Depending on how you look at it, the tallest mountain on Earth could either be Mount Everest or Mauna Kea. At 29,029 feet, Mount Everest is the tallest mountain above sea level. Interestingly if measured from base to summit, Mauna Kea measures 56,000 feet.
