From simple setting tweaks to using advanced apps, there are many ways you can turbocharge your Android device.

  1. Delete everything you aren't using and update your smartphone: Getting rid of infrequently used apps does increase the performance on your Android device. Besides apps, even remove photos, videos, music and any other files you aren't using--the added space gives more breathing room for Android run. Also, update your smartphone operating system to the latest version. If you don’t receive automatic notifications for this, do it manually: Go to ‘Settings’, then tap ‘About Phone’, tap ‘Android Version’ and select ‘System Update’.

  2. Delete all temporary files and cache: Temporary files and caches are created to optimise load times of an app while it is running, but is counter-productive if left unchecked. Some smartphones have system tools that automatically and periodically clear these files. If yours doesn't, there are plenty of third-party apps like ‘Avast Cleanup’ and ‘CCleaner’ that will do the job.

  3. Simplify your Home Screen: A cluttered home screen can hamper your smartphone’s performance. Only keep the shortcuts--and especially widgets--that you regularly use and delete all others. Also, avoid using live wallpapers that bog down response.

  4. Turn off app animations: Animation on an App may make it appear prettier, but these eat up valuable battery life and processing speed. To turn off animations on your Android device. Go to ‘Developer Options’ in ‘Settings’, then tap on ‘Animations’ and disable them.

  5. Overclock your device: When a smartphone is manufactured it is ‘clocked’ at a given speed. The speed selected is such that it delivers a balance between performance and battery life. Overclocking your Android smartphone will increase its performance, but at the price of battery life. There are many third-party overclocking apps that do this--‘Kernel Adiutor (ROOT)’ is one of the best. But remember--such apps directly access sensitive internals of the Android OS and phone hardware--use it at your own risk!
