Summer of Code (SoC), is a Google initiative that offers student developers stipends to write code for various open source software projects. The programme is organised between May and August. Accepted students are paired with a mentor, thus exposing them to real-world software development scenarios. Since its inception in 2005, the programme has brought together nearly 2,500 successful student participants and 2,500 mentors from 98 countries worldwide. As a result of SoC, talents in the next generation are spotted early and good work gets done for the community in the form of new software, bug fixes, features and documentation.

10. What does the symbol ‘℞’ at the beginning of medical prescriptions mean?
Receiver
Prescription
Abbreviation of Hippocrates
The symbol ‘℞’ is said to stand for the Latin word "recipe" meaning "to take" and when a medical practitioner writes a prescription beginning with "℞", he or she is completing the command. This was probably originally directed at the pharmacist who needed a recipe to prepare a medicine by compounding various ingredients as directed by the medical practitioner. It has since become the customary part of the medical prescription. There are various theories about the origin of this symbol. It looks similar to ‘the Wedjat’ (the Eye of Horus) and the astrological sign for Jupiter. The symbol "℞" is thus believed to be placed on prescriptions to invoke the blessings of these gods on the drug, to help the patient recover.
