The newly-unveiled 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is, in every sense of the word, new. Slotted between the volume segment C-Class / CLA-Class range and the high-end S-Class, this year’s new model is draped in the company’s newest design language, making it actually resemble a shrunken version of their top-of-the-shelf S-Class.

And the innovations extend beneath the skin too--even while its predecessor was in itself a veritable tour-de-force in electronic wizardry, this one takes things to a whole other level. With the company actually going on record to say this car is “the most advanced vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz product portfolio," it’s saying a hell of a lot.

Pictured here is the interior of the E 350 e model, with the Saddle Brown/Macciato leather interior.
2. Mercedes-Benz 2016 E-Class: All-glass dashboard
Apart from the glass dashboard, the car also has touch-sensitive surfaces for better access to the vehicle’s infotainment system with the ability to swipe and tap to control.
Shown here is the upcoming Mercedes-Benz 2-16 E 400 4MATIC, AMG Line in the Leather Black/Saddle Brown interior trim.
3. Mercedes-Benz 2016 E-Class: Back seat splendour
At the back, passengers have their own little vista of the heavens through the rear part of the split sunroof. On the audio entertainment front, the new 2016 E-Class continues to use the formidable Burmester sound system, with even a speaker on the roof that ties into the specially-crafted 3D Surround Sound system built for the car.
4. Mercedes-Benz 2016 E-Class: It can 'talk' to other cars
The new 2016 E-Class can now self park and unpark itself using the accompanying smartphone-based app. After all, nothing like a phone-based app that triggers the car to move itself to really claim those bragging rights.
The car will also be the first to incorporate Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) technology that will enable it to exchange information with compatible systems in other cars, streetlights etc. V2V will eventually enable truly practical autonomous driving experiences, which will truly come to the fore as the system gets implemented on a larger scale--this is expected to happen over the next several years.

6. Mercedes-Benz 2016 E-Class: Also available in planet-saving hybrid
Shown here is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz E 350 e--the Plug-in Hybrid version--which will complement the gasoline-based versions of the car.
