While Google is celebrating its 18th birthday on September 27, the celebratory doodle, however, went out with a disclaimer.

The company, founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergei Brin, observes its birthday on September 27. But even Google seems to be unaware of when its birthday really is.

Since 2006, it has been celebrating its birthday on September 27, but the year before that, it had celebrated the birthday on Sept 26.

And on its 6th birthday, in 2004, the birthday was observed on September 7, but the year before that, it was on September 8.

However, settling all debates, Google has now stuck to September 27 since 2013, because it was on this date that the first ever birthday Doodle went up in 2002.

Over the years, the logo for Google has undergone a multitude of changes. On this day, as our beloved search engine turns an adult, here is a look at all the logos over the years.

1. BackRub

Just in case you did not know, even though Google started off in the year 1998, the idea was actually conceived as a research project while Sergei Brin and Larry Page were PhD students in the Stanford University, California. It was named BackRub since unlike any other search engine, it took into account the number of backlinks a webpage had when it came to ranking them as search results.

The logo featured a scanned image of Larry Page's hand.

Closer to the multicoloured logo that we have now, the colours were still different in this logo from 1998. This is the first logo of Google from the year it went public, and it came in the font Baskerville Bold. (Photo courtesy - Wikimedia Commons)

Unveiled in September 1, 2015, the latest Google logo maintained the flattened 2D look, but changed the font to a never-used-before sans-serif font, and the shadows were completely removed. (Photo courtesy - Wikimedia Commons)
