CEO of Thoughts2Bots (a centre for Robotics education) Sudhanshu Sharma and film director Pannaga Bharna talk about
robotics and film-making.
Pannaga Bharna: Could you give us a brief about robotics and what exactly Thoughts2Bots is all about?
Sudhanshu Sharma: Edutronics is basically a child-skill development activity where we address the basic gap in the formal education system by providing necessary tools like mechanics and robotics to implement activity-based teaching to children.
Though our head office is in Gurgaon, we have tied up with several schools across the country that incorporates this activity.
Pannaga: Robotics is a very interesting subject. Do children really enjoy doing this activity?
S: Oh yes, they do enjoy it. By doing these activities, they also get to learn about other science concepts that are taught by the school. So, it becomes a two-way learning. But, creating them is the biggest task. Initially, they look disinterested, but once they understand the concept they enjoy doing it.
Pannaga: That’s great. As a matter of fact, even film-making is like robotics. We are given the camera, that’s the object and we have to create the scenes. A director’s job is not just to write it, and create it, but it all depends on how interestingly one puts the scenes together.
Sudhanshu: That’s very interesting. Considering the fact that your father is an eminent film-maker in the Kannada industry, tell us about your journey.
Pannaga: I am a computer science student and was involved with editing as a part time job for television soaps. But, I got bored after few days and started complaining to my mother. It was she who told me that film-making is a difficult job. I took it up as a challenge and started off working on short films. Only when I started working on my first film did I realise the hurdles that one has to face.
Post that, I went to the US to do my masters in film-making and now I am all set to work on a commercial film.
Sudhanshu: That’s a pretty interesting journey. It’s great to know that technology has become a part of our lives now. Be it in film-making or robotics or even otherwise. There are several applications and machines that have been developed to make our life simpler today. Robotics too, has its own fascination. I hope children use them in a big way in the future!
