And a tiny update regarding the Mac Mini. It is now updated with faster processors, 4th-gen Intel Core processors, Intel Iris and HD graphics 5000, WiFi 802.11ac and two Thunderbolt ports. It previously came in at $599, but is now bumped down to $499.

This machine ships today at $2,499. But the older  non-5K versions will still be available, including the recent 21.5-inch product.

The new iMac: now with a 5K retina display. 7x the pixel density of a 1080p screen. And the screen is 5mm thin. And it uses 30% lower energy. They're really waxing on about how gorgeous the screen is.

Last-gen versions get a price cut: now as low as $249 for original Mini. iPad Mini will start at $249 instead of $299. iPad Mini 2 is $299. iPad Mini 3 starts at $399. iPad Air starts at $399. iPad Air 2 starts at $499

The iPad Mini with retina display starts at $399 for 16GB and goes up to $829 for 128GB with Wi-Fi and cellular. Both are available in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage capacities.

Apple’s 9.7-inch iPads range in price from $499 for the 16GB WiFi-only version to $929 for the 128GB iPad Air with Wi-Fi and cellular capabilities.

Video editing: An app called Replay, that enables even video neophytes to edit their shoots easily. Plenty of preset styles and an easy interface. And it's free in the Apple store.

With TouchID, you'll be able to use Apple Pay to make online purchases.

On the communication front: faster LTE (up to 150Mbps). Also there's TouchID in the iPad Air.

You can finally take burst mode photos and Time Lapse on the new iPad. There's also slow motion, but video resolution gets cut down to 720p.

The new iSight camera is 8 megapixels. Takes videos at 1080p. Meh, given that many new flagship tablets and phones these days are doing 2K or 4K video.

"The iPad is the best viewfinder for composing your photos". But wait, how many people use their iPad as a primary device for taking photos?

180x faster graphics performance compared to the first iPad.

More iPad Air love: 64-bit allows you to do more intensive tasks, such as more high-tech gaming. Of course.

It's using a new-generation processor, specially for the iPad 2 Air: the A8X. 3 billion transistors, 40% faster CPU, 2.5x faster GPU

Schiller says, "You can stack two of the iPad Air 2s, and they'll still be thinner than the first iPad."

18% thinner than the first iPad Air. World's slimmest tablet, they say.

... you shave it down. With a laser. At least that what they're indicating in the video that's playing.

So what do you do to make the iPad Air better? Drumroll...

Apple says iPad outsells the major PC makers overall computer lineups. Not really a fair comparison though--many of these PCs cost signifcantly more than an iPad.

225 million iPads sold to date.

Now the fun stuff: iPads. Cook: It's not surprising that we sold more iPads in the first 4 years than we sold of any product in our history.

23:06 IST Thursday, 16 October 2014

Apple iOS 8.1 will be available for download starting this Monday, October 20.

Security: there's an elaborate handshaking demo indicating that Apple Pay is ultra secure.

22:56 IST Thursday, 16 October 2014

"While I'm working on my iPad, my phone can even be across the house. If I receive an SMS, I can pick it up on my iPad"

There's Instant Hot Spot, you can take advantage of the connection on your phone without removing it from your bag. You can make and receive regular telephone calls using Mac as a speaker phone.

New design for Yosemite with text efects, plenty of iCloud updates: people today use multiple devices, and often jump between them on the fly, and need to be able to access documents form anywhere, without worrying about versioning issues.

22:39 IST Thursday, 16 October 2014

Tim Cook steps on stage, and true to style, he says, " It's been an amazing year."

22:20 IST Thursday, 16 October 2014

Ten minutes to the start of the event, and we're at the familiar screen proclaiming that Apple's live stream is only available to Apple product users. Sorry, IE, Firefox and Chrome!
