Who cares about the common man, I'm happy the iPhone 6 is here!

Who cares about the common man, I'm happy the iPhone 6 is here!

In his landmark film A Wednesday, Nasseruddin Shah said, “I am just a stupid, common man.” I am a stupid common man as well. But I am a happy common man. The reason behind my happiness is the most revolutionary product that will take the telecom world by storm - the iPhone 6, launched a few days ago by Apple. Yes, although it has no relevance in my life and I may have to mortgage myself to afford it, I am happy.

The launch day was indeed the most landmark day in the history of the world. Facebook feeds, Twitter trends, every streaming website had only the iPhone launch video as their lead. It was all over the place. Even in India, where the instrument is still a month away from hitting the markets, people were going gaga over the latest arrival from Apple. Some, forced by their habits, also began drawing comparisons to other phones like Google Nexus 4, saying that these features have been available to Android users years ago. There was so much euphoria around the event. It was as if India had achieved independence yet again. I was so happy.

The people in Kashmir have not had food, water or any mode of communication for the past five days, stranded in locations which no one knows, the army is putting their own lives in danger to rescue people. But who cares, I am happy, the iPhone 6 is out!

I really don’t care if tomatoes are still selling at Rs 60 a kilo, or if the decibel levels during the Ganesh Visarjan are at an all time high, if elections are about to arrive in the state or if MLAs will yet again spring out of hibernation and beg for votes. I'm happy, the iPhone 6 is out!

A common man who thinks twice before buying expensive vegetables, is now forced to look at full-page newspaper ads of something he can only dream of buying. In the film, Naseeruddin Shah wanted to clean his house; but little did he know that his house had become so tech-savvy that he may even have apps to rid the country of corruption, inflation and terrorism!

The euphoria around Apple's latest gadgets has got nothing to do with the common man, the life of our nation. He, at this point may still be figuring out ways to breath in an overly crowded local train, thinking of which part of his savings he should break into during the upcoming festive season and other issues surrounding his day to day existence.

But who cares, the iPhone 6 is here and I am happy!
