Hollywood film-maker of Indian origin Nagendra Karri (whose last film Where Are You Sophia? was showcased at Cannes this year) is now making a thriller called Mobster in which superstar Johnny Depp is tipped to play a CIA agent. But what makes this project more interesting is that the director is plotting to remake the film in Hindi that might see Aamir Khan or John Abraham stepping into Johnny’s shoes.

“I’m really pushing for Johnny Depp to essay the role because he adds dimensions to any character. I’m in talks to rope him in. The best thing about this project is that I will be making the film is Hindi too. The plot cannot obviously be the same as people in India would not be able to relate to it. So we have a totally different storyline for these two films and a complete new cast for the Indian version,” Nagendra who owns Eternal Mind Production LLC in New York reveals.

The English Mobster will show how a CIA agent in New York loses his family because of the Russian mafia and what he does in that scenario. The Indian version, however, will be set in Mumbai and the city’s infamous underbelly as well as the organised crime scene will be explored. The film will trace the connection that Mumbai’s mafia has with the Middle East and also explore the turbulent north-eastern Indian crisis.

“The Indian version will have many angles. From the organised crime scene in Mumbai to the north-eastern crisis, the film will travel through many places including the Middle East. I’m looking forward to having Aamir Khan or John Abraham to play the lead of this venture. They fit the bill to a T and are suave actors which the film needs,” Nagendra ends.
