Karia Munda set to be elected Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha

BJP's Karia Munda is all set to be the new Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha with the ruling and the opposition parties extending support to him in the election for the post scheduled for tomorrow.

UPA and NDA filed 13 sets of nomination papers on behalf of Munda on Friday. He was chosen by the BJP as the Deputy Speaker candidate after the Congress-led UPA offered the post to the Opposition as per convention. Leader of the Opposition L K Advani signed the first set of nomination papers for Munda which were seconded by BJP President Rajnath Singh. In the next set, Deputy Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj proposed the tribal leader's name for the post which was seconded by Ananth Kumar.

Others who supported Munda's nomination were Sharad Yadav (JD-U), Anant Geete (Shiv Sena), Ratan Singh Ajnala (Shiromani Akali Dal) and Ajit Singh (RLD). On behalf of the UPA, Finance Minister and Leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee proposed Munda's name which was seconded by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal.

Sharad Pawar (NCP), Sudip Bandopadhyay (TMC), T R Baalu (DMK), Lalu Prasad (RJD), Reoti Raman Singh (SP) and E Ahamed (IUML) also backed Munda's candidature.
