MMM launches urogynecology services

 Madras Medical Mission (MMM), a leading health service provider, on Thursday announced the launching of urogynecology services and specialist breast care unit in its hospital here.
   
Urogynaecology is a super speciality dealing with pelvic floor disorders, especially among women, which includes urinary problems, pelvic organ prolapse and ano-rectal dysfunction.
   
"All the urogynecology services in our hospital would be provided by a woman specialist, which helps to break the barrier for women in seeking help in the areas of pelvic floor problems", MMM Medical Director Thankam Varma told reporters.

She said three out of ten women with urinary problem had some form of urinary incontinence. Presentation varied from urinary leak on cough and sneeze among others.
   
The breast care unit would offer advanced stereotactic hologic systems which can target lesions to within one mm thereby diagnosing small cancers accurately and their removal with "excellent cosmetic results", Varma said.
   
The unit would also offer triple assessment (clinical examination, imaging and tissue diagnosis) for diagnosis of breast diseases, she added.
