More than three days after the incident, the police are yet to make much headway in the kidnapping of the teenaged son of a diamond businessman. However, police suspect an insider's involvement in the kidnapping and are confident of a breakthrough.

Diamond trader Arvind Beladiya's son, Divyesh (14), was abducted from near his house in Trikam Nagar, Varachha Road, on Thursday afternoon. The family soon learnt about the incident after receiving SMS from abductors, demanding ransom, and informed the police.

According to police, the abductors have demanded Rs10 lakh in cash and Rs50 lakh worth of diamonds in lieu of releasing Divyesh. The abductors first wanted the ransom to be delivered to them in Navsari, but the plan was changed after they learnt that police were on their trail. The abductors then asked that the money be paid to them in Mumbai. However, it could not be ascertained whether the ransom was paid to them or not.

DCP Subhash Trivedi said they are trying to reach the abductors by tracing the location of the cell phone from which SMSs were sent to Divyesh's family.

The police suspect involvement of some family acquaintance in the kidnapping, and expect to crack the case soon.

Divyesh, the only son of Arvind Beladiya, is studying at Ryan International School. He cleared the class IX exams, and was promoted to the class X. He was on his way home from tuition on Thursday when he was allegedly kidnapped.
