The top three ranks in the state in the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, were secured once again by the IIT-JEE rank-holders. Milind Mukesh Rao, who stood 32nd in the All India Rank (AIR) in JEE, secured the first rank in the state for AIEEE. His overall AIR in AIEEE is tenth.

“It was nice to have topped in the state for AIEEE. I gave the exam two weeks after the JEE test. I just spent that time doing a little extra reading,” he said. The second rank went to Amit Warrier, who got an AIR of 78 in JEE. His aim is to study in IIT-Madras, his father’s alma mater.

“I intend to join IIT-Madras to pursue either electronic or computer science,” he said.
The third rank in the state went to Arun Vinayak, who got an AIR of 275 in JEE. He also harbours the ambition to study at IIT-Madras. “I think getting the third rank in the state in AIEEE is an achievement. I will treasure it, but I still intend to pursue my dream of joining IIT,” Arun said.

Incidentally, all the three rank-holders attended coaching classes at the same centre, BASE. Overall 19,479 students attempted the AIEEE exam in Karnataka. 12,313 students from Bangalore wrote AIEEE in 24 centres. The eighth edition of AIEEE was taken by 9,62,119 candidates across 85 cities in India on April 26. The All India first rank went to the All India IIT topper from IIT-Delhi zone, Nitin Jain.

This competitive exam is held for admission to the 20 National Institutes of Technology, five Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), 11 Central and State-funded Universities and 19 self-financed institutes. There will be mock counselling from June 8 till June 24 for candidates. Students can lock their choices anytime during June 8 till June 28, after that there would be no changes once choices are locked. After securing admission, candidates have to report to the institutes by July 24.
