Dr Verghese Kurien was shifted to Mumbai-based Breach Candy Hospital for further treatment, on Friday. For past 10 days, he was being treated at Mulajibhai Patel Urology Hospital (MPUH), Nadiad, for acute weakness and loss of appetite.

Sources said Dr Kurien, father of the white revolution in India, was discharged from the Nadiad hospital on Wednesday afternoon. His family brought him to Vadodara, from where he was taken to Mumbai. His wife, Molly, and daughter, Nirmala, have accompanied him to Mumbai, sources added.

Eighty-seven years old Dr Kurien had complained of weakness and loss of appetite and was administered glucose at MPUH.

Dr Kurien is widely credited for the scripting the success story of the Amul brand. After giving up the reins of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF), an organisation which he set up to sell products manufactured by dairies, he lived in Anand with his wife.
