Sania Mirza’s dad confirms that the tennis star is indeed formally engaged to Hyderabad businessman Sohrab Mirza.
Shahid Kapur has lost his chance! Tennis star Sania Mirza is all set to tie the knot with Hyderabad-based Mohammed Sohrab Mirza Shakeebai (son of Kamran Mirza who owns Universal Bakers). Shakeebai, who is lovingly called ‘Mo’ by his friends, is obviously in love as his account on Facebook has Sania’s pictures splashed all over.
DNA tracked down Mo but when asked about his marriage plans to Sania, he simply said, “I really cannot comment on this,” neither accepting nor denying our question. However, Sania’s father Imran confirmed to DNA, “I want to confirm that Sania is engaged to Sohrab Mirza, whose family hails from the city of Hyderabad.
Although we’re not related, both our families have had friendly ties for several decades. However, the wedding is not expected to take place for a while.”
He then adds, “I would like to state that the news appearing in certain sections of the media about the two maternal grandmothers having fixed the liaison is baseless. It has also been wrongly projected that Sania is contemplating early retirement from tennis. These reports are absolutely untrue.”
One of Mo’s friends in Hyderabad, under condition of anonymity, revealed, “Sania met Mo in December 2008. Sania’s childhood friend Lavraj Bhalerao introduced the two. Even at a New Year’s party at the ballroom in Taj Krishna, they were inseparable. Since then, they’ve always been together and even party together.”
Another Hyderabad-based friend, Shivangi Sharma, says, “Mo’s a very close friend of mine. He is taking care of his family business and is also planning to study abroad. He wants to complete his Masters.
We don’t know about the exact date of the wedding…I don’t think it has been decided yet.”
