Shravan Kumar's family gets visa for Australia

The father and uncle of the Indian student from Andhra Pradesh, Shravan Kumar, who was seriously injured in a racist attack in Australia have got the visa to go to that country.
 
"Kumar's father, T Chidambara Rao, and uncle have got the visa on Friday and are likely to leave for Australia either on Friday or Saturday," family sources said.

The duo have obtained passports on Wednesday last and completed formalities like medical tests on Thursday for obtaining visa.

Shravan Kumar's mother Prameela, who stayed put at their native village Mucherla in Khammam district, is very worried, the sources said.

Kumar (25), who was attacked with a screwdriver by miscreants over the weekend, is in the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in Melbourne and doctors are "not very optimistic" about chances of his recovery, according to the Indian Consul General in Melbourne.
 
Shravan Kumar left for Australia one and a half years ago to pursue an automobile engineering course.
 
Meanwhile, India today expressed serious concern over the spate of racist attacks against its students in Australia.
 
Indian High Commissioner to Australia Sujata Singh, who met premier of Victoria John Brumby and top police and educational officials of the province, expressed hope that the attacks against Indian students would come to an end.
