According to Ahmedabad East MP Harin Pathak, those killed have been identified as a teacher, Mukesh Chauhan (30), his wife Manisha (25) and son Kavan (8); owner of the bus Bharat Shambhu Kakadia and driver Govindbhai. Dhruvi, daughter of Bharat Kakadia, has sustained serious injuries and her condition is said to be critical.

Anil Vekaria, 30, one of the passengers on the ill-fated bus, told DNA from Dehradun on phone, "Most of the bus passengers are teachers working in different primary schools in Amreli district. We had come along with our family members to visit North Indian places. We had started for Mussoorie from our last stoppage late on Saturday night and reached Dehradun before the scheduled time. So we halted there for 2-3 hours. Early in the morning, we again started our journey, but between 6:15 and 6:30 in the morning, the bus plunged into nearly 150-200 ft deep ravine."

He further said, "My seat was just behind the driver's seat. The bus was continuously falling down, but because of a big rock it stopped.  Somehow, I escaped injuries. So I pulled out as many as 13 people.

“About two hours after the accident, people from surrounding villages and government rescue team  reached the site and pulled out all passengers from the bus. The injured people have been shifted to government hospitals in Dehradun and Mussoorie.”

Umesh Chandra Kabdwal, additional district magistrate, Dehradun confirmed the casualty figures, "Five persons have died and a girl is seriously injured. 14 others have suffered serious injuries but are out of danger. The bodies will be sent to Gujarat by air via Delhi.”

Kabdwal also said that a compensation of Rs 20,000 each has been given to 14 passengers with serious injuries and Rs5,000 to those with minor injuries. Moreover, a compensation of Rs50,000 each will be given to the kin of those killed in the mishap.
