Pro-LTTE leader P Nedumaran, heading the Tamils Nationalist Movement, said on Wednesday that the Tigers chief V Prabhakaran was alive and safe and dismissed as false the Sri Lankan Army's claim that he was dead.

"The claim being circulated in TV channels and print media, by Sri Lanka is totally false. Prabakaran is still alive and safe," he said here.

He was speaking in front of the Central Jail here after visiting those arrested in connection with the recent attack on Army convoy.

Nedumaran, also the president of Sri Lankan Tamils Protection Movement, said though they (LTTE) were lying low now they would regain their strength and strike back to make their dream (Eelam) a reality. If not direct battle, they would adopt a guerilla warfare to achieve their goal, he said.

Meanwhile, a strict vigil is being kept in all the nine Sri Lankan Tamils refugee camps in the district following the death of Prabakaran as some inmates of a camp put up a banner saying 'our leader is not dead and will not die.'

Strict instructions had been given to the inmates to not to go out of the camps for any reason, sources in Q Branch wing of police said today.

As the news of Prabhakaran's death spread, the inmates in Puluvampatti camp put up a banner with a portrait of the LTTE chief and warning Sri Lankan government "Be careful. Our leader is not dead and will not die. He will always remain the leader of Tamils."

Since there are nearly 1,000 Sri Lankan refugees in the Puluvampatti camp, strict vigil is being kept and the movement of each individual is being monitored, the sources said.
