Five injured after speeding SUV rams into tanker

Five persons were injured when a stationary tanker overturned on them after being hit by a speeding SUV driven by an allegedly drunk youth in Sector 24 area here, police said on Wednesday.

The accident took place late on Tuesday night when some labourers, who were having dinner at a pavement near Gijaur crossing in the area under Sector 24 police station, were hit by the tanker after the sports utility vehicle rammed into it, they said.

Police said Rajveer, 39, a resident of Sector 33, was driving the vehicle allegedly under the influence of alcohol and hit the water tanker parked on the roadside after loosing control over his vehicle.

The tanker overturned on the labourers injuring five of them, including a child.

The injured were rushed to a nearby private hospital where the condition of one of them was stated to be critical.

Police have arrested the accused.
