CM Narendra Modi returned to Gujarat reportedly after some of the potential allies expressed unhappiness over his involvement in the backroom negotiations.
Chief minister Narendra Modi, seen as a key negotiator in wooing allies into the NDA-fold, returned to Gujarat on Friday reportedly after some of the potential allies expressed unhappiness over his involvement in the backroom negotiations.
Modi was rushed to New Delhi after polling ended for the 2009 Lok Sabha elections on May 13, to try and garner allies for the NDA. Party sources in Delhi blamed some of the allies who are believed to have expressed unhappiness over his involvement in the backroom negotiations.
He was said to be talking to AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa with whom he is said to be enjoying a cordial relationship. However, sources said the party has now asked a Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) leader to talk to her, while LK Advani and Rajnath Singh will talk to other allies.
The party, which is expecting 18-20 seats in Gujarat, however claimed, “He will be present in the city for the counting of votes and may go to Delhi after results.”
Political analyst Mahesh Rangarajan said that negotiations with allies is a delicate matter. “This development shows that Modi is not accepted for putting together a multi-party coalition.” He said there are reservations about a wider role for him from allies who fear his Hindu hardliner image.
