The fate of nearly 400 students of ICFAI-Tech Bangalore, hang in the balance as the status regarding the legality of their transfers to ICFAI centres affiliated to University of Dehradun remains unclear.

Agitating students had gone on a rampage damaging college property on May 7 when the legality of their admissions was questioned.

“We had been assured by the management that we all will get the transfer letters to join the recognised ICFAI centers. We recently found out from the UGC that these transfer letters are illegal,” said Anitha Ghatge, a third year student.

ICFAI-Tech Hyderabad, Bangalore and Jaipur centres are not recognised by any regulatory body like the University Grants Commission, All India Council for Technical Education or the state governments.

Classes resumed at ICFAI Bangalore after a 12-day strike on April 13, after GP Srivastav, the zonal officer of the ICFAI-Tech, Dehradun had visited campus to assure the students that they would all be given transfer letters to the University of Dehradun.

Students at ICFAI-Tech Hyderabad had filed an RTI to find out about the legality of their transfers. “We have found out that as none of our centres are registered with any authority even the transfers will not be recognised. This means our transfer to the University of Dehradun is illegal,” said Jaideep R, another third year student.
