Karunanidhi hospitalised for fever, condition normal

Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi was admitted to a hospital here on Sunday due to fever and his condition was stated to be "normal".

"Karunanidhi, on the advice of the doctors, has been admitted in a private hospital for treatment for fever. His health condition is normal," the state government said.

The 85-year old leader who was admitted to Apollo Hospital this morning, also complained of back pain, DMK sources said.

The DMK patriarch had hit the campaign trail for the May 13 Lok Sabha elections at Tiruchirappalli on May one and was scheduled to address meetings at different places in North and South Chennai constituencies today.

Karunanidhi, who underwent a major surgery for back pain in February this year, was also scheduled to address a joint meeting with Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in Chennai on May 6 and wind up his statewide campaign here on May 11 before covering Madurai and Coimbatore.

The state government, in a release on Karunidhi's health condition, also requested visitors and party cadres to avoid visiting the chief minister to enable him recover soon.
