SMC to train 766 workers who would know how to deal with infectious diseased and provide basic treatment .
To curb the rising number of cases of diseases in various parts of the city, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has decided to train anganwadi workers to deal with infectious diseases and provide basic treatment to patients. The civic body will train all 766 anganwadi workers in phases.
SMC adopts various techniques to control and detect cases of fever, communicable and water-borne disease that occur in the city during summer and monsoon. But despite all steps, SMC hardly gets real figures of patients being infected, receiving treatment and areas affected by it.
However to tackle the situation, this year civic body has decided to train anganwadi workers about the communicable diseases and methods of providing treatment to
patients.
The workers would be trained on diseases such as chikungunya, leptospirosis, dengue and other water-borne diseases. Workers will survey the residential areas nearby their workplace on regular intervals and will need to submit reports to top SMC medical
officials.
Hemant Desai, deputy commissioner in-charge of health and hospital, said that the step would help in detecting cases more accurately. The figures will be monitored weekly or fortnightly to assess the spread of communicable diseases.
“The idea is basically mooted by municipal commissioner and she has asked us to conduct surveys at industrial areas also.
We have decided to request president of all societies in the city to pass on information to us, if anyone in their area suffers from some disease. It is also decided to take
help of Indian Medical Association (Surat Chapter) to furnish details of cases of fever and other communicable disease to SMC,” Desai added.
