He is not an active politician like his father, but knows how to communicate with people. And he has the stamina of a seasoned leader. Meet Jayant Advani, the 43-year-old son of BJP's prime ministerial candidate LK Advani.

Jayant, a businessman, is performing a son’s duty. His father is the party’s star-candidate-in-chief, contesting from Gandhinagar and he is leaving no stone unturned to garner maximum votes for him.

Accompanying Jayant on his tours are his mother Kamla Advani, wife Geetika and younger sister Pratibha. Jayant is moving from door to door, urging people to come out on polling day and vote for the BJP.

With his father busy campaigning in every nook and corner of the country, Jayant is doing his bit in Gandhinagar.

On April 18, Jayant visited Bopal, a newly-developed area in the outskirts of the city. Visibly happy with people's response, he shakes hand with elderly and educated, and his supporters, about 50, follow him with saffron scarves around their necks. Leading a cavalcade of cars, rickshaws and tempos, Jayant waves towards everybody — those looking out of high rises and those looking out of small homes.

"Yad rakhna 30 April, BJP par button dabana," Jayant tells people standing by the roadside. He is always eager to exchange a word with young voters and elders. Should he meet a youngster, Jayant would inevitably ask, "Are you a first time voter?" And if the answer is 'yes', Jayant will immediately say, "So give your vote to BJP".

With Gandhinagar’s profile  changing after delimitation, people are expecting a tough fight this time. Advani's opponent is Suresh Patel, a green card holder from the US, who is running an intense campaign. He is confident of getting the Patel community’s support. Independent candidate and noted danseuse, Mallika Sarabhai, is also making things difficult for Advani. She is drawing good crowds in her election rallies.
