From Manmohan to Modi, orders are pouring in for the Bangalore-based firm dealing with masks of political leaders as candidates and parties race to innovate to catch the attention of voters.

From catching morning walkers in parks to flying kites besides, of course addressing public meetings, candidates have busied themselves in campaigning. For the voters thus, these are masks, kites, boats, theme songs and the good old 'Raths'....among eye-catching innovations to see their candidates who also have to face restrictions on posters, etc.

"The scorching heat makes it very difficult to campaign in the daytime and hence I start at 6 am by visiting people in the gardens and parks. In this way there is optimum use of
time and energy," a BSP candidate from the Pune Lok Sabha constituency says.

This style of early morning campaigning has also caught fancy of many candidates. With most people visiting such spots at sunrise to beat the summer heat, it becomes an ideal time to break into a conversation, he says. Over the years using masks of leaders have gone down well with campaigners. The current poll season has also seen a large number of masks being used to familiarise voters with leaders.

"It's impossible for the leaders to visit every household due to the hectic schedules but with their masks voters would atleast get an idea as to how their leaders
look like," a party worker says.

Masks of BJP's prime ministerial candidate LK Advani, former prime minister A B Vajpayee, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, along with Congress's Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi are in heavy demand, according to a Bangalore-based event management firm, actively involved in manufacturing such masks.

"Demand for the masks is pouring in, and is expected to increase further in the coming days. It's an innovative concept and should go down well with the voters," an official
of the firm says.

In Gujarat, the BJP has come out with miniature replicas of Tata's highly anticipated Nano car with the party's lotus symbol on it as a part of their campaign. The party further plans to take this Nano model to other parts of the country as well.

"Anything imaginative will always catch the voters attention. Nano being in the pick of things should help in connecting with voters," Media Convenor of BJP, S Kohli says.

Among other things, BJP has also been using bindis, ear-rings, and even band-aids as innovative campaigning gestures.
