Away from the hustle-bustle of city life stands the set of Real channel’s reality show Sarkaar Ki Duniya. The set — a two-hour drive from the Goa airport towards Karwar on the Karnataka border — has been constructed by the set designers of Kamal Haasan’s Tamil movie Dasavathaaram and is spread across a sprawling 13 and half acres.

However, it was shocking to see the 13 remaining contestants surviving under the scorching April sun minus any air-conditioner, amidst rat poop on their beds and devoid of any contact with the outside world.

Apart from the contestants, the only other people surviving on the island are Ashutosh Rana, the host, 250 crew members and Nikhil Alva, the CEO of Miditech Pvt Ltd and the chairman of Alva Brothers Entertainment that has a 50 per cent share in Real.

Interestingly, a whole lot of portions are edited or cut before airing the show on national television.

There have been instances when the contestants — after living in filth, in a secluded area with no sign of humanity — haven’t been able to lay their hands off each-other to satisfy their sexual needs.

That apart, the language used by the contestants on this channel is also abusive that beeps have become the order of the day when the show is being aired.

Nikhil said, “There is a lot of adult content that we get to see but we cannot air it on national television because airing pornographic content is not allowed.”

Out of desperation, some contestants had even tried to run away from the island but then changed their minds.

Nikhil narrates an incident that taught him to be extra careful next time onwards. “I had once taken home an unedited, raw footage of the show on DVD. I had to end up watching the show in a fast-forward mode because I was watching the content with my kids. My wife threw a fit. Since then, I haven’t taken any unedited DVD of the footage home,” he says. Before signing off, he adds with a smile, “I learnt a repertoire of gaalis through this show.”
