Seven people were arrested at Valod village of Tapi district on Tuesday for conspiring to take hold of properties belonging to the trust owning famous Lijjat Papad brand. They prepared bogus documents and affidavits for claiming ownership of the trust's properties and funds.

According to sources, Mahila Gruh Udyog Charitable Trust, located at Valod village, is the owner of famous brand Lijjat Papad and has the product legally registered. As the brand gained success, the trust got good assets and properties registered under its name. The gang of seven tried to take possession of these assets by preparing false documents and affidavits. They created a bogus trust under a similar name for taking hold of the properties.

The conspiracy was unearthed on Tuesday after Valod police arrested the seven persons involved in preparing false documents and affidavits. They have been identified as Kaushika Chaudhry (a resident of Bajipura), Parvati Rathod, Ila Chaudhry, Aruna Chaudhry, Vasu Chaudhry (all residents of Valod) and Dashrath Piprodia & Deepak Piprodia (both residents of Katargam, Surat).

According to sources, all of them registered a trust named Mahila Gruh Udyog Chairtable Trust, Valod under the Charitable Trust Act. Then, to take undue advantage of the original trust, they manipulated the certificate issued by charitable commissioner and added the word Lijjat Papad on it. Later, bogus ownership documents and affidavits were prepared to transfer all the assets and properties of the original trust, in the name of the other trust.

To make their plan more concrete, Kaushika prepared bogus stamps declaring herself as president of the Mahila Trust and even used the Lijjat Papad trademark on the affidavits. The entire scam was unearthed after they submitted the bogus affidavits and documents to the mamlatdar office and village panchayat as proof for transfer of ownership. Somi Patel, member of the original trust, has registered a complaint at Valod police station against the seven persons. Police are investigating the case.
