Man gets 7 years jail for raping friend's mother

The sessions court on Tuesday sentenced a 32-year-old man to seven years jail on charges of allegedly raping his friend's mother.

The victim a 55-year-old woman was the mother of accused Rahul Gaikwad's friend, who worked in a private firm and lived in Badhwar Park in south Mumbai.

The victim's son, was Gaikwad's close friend and was arrested by the Colaba police station in a case of unlawful assembly on October 3, 2006.

The same evening Gaikwad and the victim, who worked as a domestic help, went to the police station to meet him.
       
On their way back home, Gaikwad forcibly took the woman to a secluded spot and raped her. Her cries for help alerted passersby, which forced Gaikwad to flee from the spot.
       
Later a case under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code was lodged against Gaikwad and he was arrested.
       
Public prosecutor Lata Chheda examined nine witnesses, which included police officials, medical experts and witnesses.
       
The victim gave a strong statement describing her ordeal and Gaikwad was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment.
