Mira road rape victim was threatened, emotionally blackmailed

The 21-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by her 60-year-old father and a tantrik for over nine years was constantly threatened and also told that what was being done to her was to ensure good fortune for the family, police officials said on Monday.

"Her parents would threaten and emotionally blackmail her telling her not to inform anyone about what happened at home since it was being done for the good fortune of the family," asistant sperintendent of Police (Mira Road) Maithili Jha said.

Due to not taking up further education after school, the girl did not have much contact with other people and was kept restricted to her house and her father's shop of radium plating for automobiles, police officials said.

"Since the father's business was largely based online she had access to a computer and internet. She had a friend online who had counselled her to approach relatives when she informed him that she was facing problems," they said.

The father, mother of the two girls and the tantrik Hasmukh Rathod are presently in police custody till March 26.

The victims' father had made some modifications in his house so that sounds from inside did not go out, police officials said.
