New Socialist Movement backs Mallika

The Central Committee of the New Socialist Movement (NSM) on Sunday declared its support to Mallika Sarabhai who has announced to contest the coming Lok Sabha elections from Gandhinagar constituency as an independent.

New Socialist Movement and its affiliated organisations, such as Jan Sangharsh Manch and Gujarat Federation of Trade Unions, feel that by ‘opposing the communal politics of the Gujarat government Mallika has proved she can effectively articulate the grievances of the people of the state who are reeling under the onslaught of communal politics and anti-people development plans of the government’.

 In a press release, the NSM said it felt that if BJP leader L K Advani filed his nomination from Gandhinagar constituency, ‘the contest would turn into a political struggle to achieve the secular and democratic ideals of the Indian Constitution and demand for socio-political-economic justice for all the people who have been victims of the hate campaign of the right wing forces.’

The NSM said Sarabhai being a woman candidate would be able to effectively raise the voice of women against atrocities on women in Gujarat.
