Factory fire destroys goods worth crores

Fire erupted in a chemical godown cum factory at Sachin GIDC area on Monday, and damaged property worth crores. The plant and machineries in the factory suffered heavy damages.

No casualties were reported from the incident. It took long hours of effort by the civic fire department to douse the fire. However, the cause of the fire is still unknown.

Fire erupted at Rhythm Chemicals, a chemical factory cum godown, located at road no 82 in Sachin GIDC area, on Tuesday. Within a few minutes, fire spread and charred drums containing chemicals such as Ethyl, Solvent, Kerazine and other chemicals kept in the premises. Soon the entire godown was engulfed in flames.

Factory staff informed fire fighters who rushed to the spot. More than 28 fire extinguishers vehicles were deployed to turn off the fire, but the flames were so huge that fire officials too were finding it tough. Teams of Sachin GIDC, ONGC and Colourtex Company helped the fighters in their job after which, fire could be extinguished late in the afternoon.

The entire unit was destroyed, while an electric transformer of DGVCL located nearby, got burnt in the incident. Road was closed for traffic and other movements by the district after, local residents rushed towards factory to witness the incident. However three tanks containing chemicals 82,000 liters of chemicals remained untouched in the fire.
