LCB foils illegal sale of silver worth Rs83 lakh

The local crime branch (LCB), Gandhinagar, on Tuesday busted a racket involving illegal transaction of 379 kg of silver worth around Rs83 lakh.

The local crime branch (LCB), Gandhinagar, on Tuesday busted a racket involving illegal transaction of 379 kg of silver worth around Rs83 lakh. According to a source in the LCB, Gandhinagar SP Piyush Patel received information that an illegal transaction of silver was to take place on Himmatnagar-Gandhinagar highway number NH-8. A team of LCB officials was constituted under LCB PI PP Bhatt to foil the dealing.

Acting on the tip off, the LCB officials intercepted an Indigo car and seized 379 kg silver which was being transported illegally. “We had information about the illegal transaction. We intercepted the car near Chiloda circle and seized 379 kg of silver,” Patel said.

The LCB officials have nabbed four, Mahendra Singh Kushwaha, Virendra Pal Singh
Thakur, Khemchand Das Kushwaha and Ghanshyam Sharma, in this connection. All the four hail from Agra and did not possess income tax or sales tax receipts.

A source said that the silver was brought from Soni Bazaar in Agra and was being delivered to agents in Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Mumbai.

The four nabbed were going to deliver the silver to an agent in Rajkot. However, complete details about the dealers in Ahmedabad and Mumbai will be acquired only after interrogation, said a source in the LCB. In the meanwhile, the accused
have been handed over to custom officials for further interrogation.
