The leading women entrepreneurs and CEOs of the country have joined hands to form the first-of-its-kind social networking platform to encourage more women in becoming entrepreneurs.

And if the efforts of Stree Shakti, the women’s wing of the world’s largest non-profit organisation of entrepreneurs (TiE) pay off — then Bill Gates’ wife Melinda and Pepsi CEO Indra Nooyi — will fly down from the US to join hands with women and child development minister Renuka Chowdhury and HSBC India CEO Naina Lal Kidwai to award the ‘Most Inspiring Women Entrepreneur’ of the country in Mumbai on June 6.

According to sources, both Melinda and Indra have already expressed their support for the non-profit initiative. Though they have not confirmed their presence yet, Melinda is apparently “very excited and optimistic” about her participation at the event.

“We have reached out to them to participate in the initiative and we are very optimistic about their participation,” was the official line from a TiE spokesperson.

The organisation will be holding workshops, knowledge and training sessions across 15 cities in the next three months to encourage more women to start businesses of their own. The best of the lot, handpicked by a panel of leading women entrepreneurs, will be presented with the Stree Shakti Awards during June this year.

“I am happy that for the first time the women in the country have got a platform. This will help women in our country to break the myth that they can’t be successful entrepreneurs. As a woman, the challenges are greater as you have to fill in multiple roles,” said Shikha Sharma, CEO of ICICI Prudential, who’s part of the panel.
