‘Street Kings’ has the usual good cop bad cop routine at it’s core. Adapting from James Ellroy’s revealing novels about the criminality and corruption in the force, Screenwriter Steven Bochco echoes a plot that is complex and therefore interesting. Tom Ludlow (Keanu Reeves) a veteran LAPD Vice Detective has his own credo for fighting crime. He thinks and behaves like a criminal and makes vigilantism his ultimate weapon. When former friend and partner Detective Terrance Washington is killed, Ludlow decides to go after the killers only to find that he has discovered much more than he bargained for…

Ludlow comes across as a well-intentioned uniform who is literally struggling to contain the systemic evil within the force. Keanu Reeves proves quite effective in this role which expects him to look disturbed throughout. David Ayers’ narrative is engaging as it weaves in several plotlines with unfaltering ease.
