Four friends who were heading to the city on their way to attend a friend’s wedding, were killed after the car they were travelling in rammed into a lorry coming from the opposite direction on Chintamani Road, near Hoskote in Bangalore Rural on Wednesday.

The accident occurred at 3.30 pm, 15 minutes after the victims, all realtors, spoke to a friend by telephone and finalised the plan to attend the wedding in Saundatti.

The impact of the crash was so severe that half the car went under the lorry and a crane had to be summoned to pull out the mangled remains. All the victims died on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Dinesh (24), son of Tilaknagar police head-constable Nagendra Rao and Shivakumar (30), ICICI bank employee, both residents of Vijayanagar; Mallikarjuna (23), a final-year MBA student at SJS College in Nedahalli and son of former corporator Shivarudraiah residing at Kaggadasapura and KR Ravindra alias Ravi Gowda (42), a resident of Kengeri and native of Theerthahalli.

Hoskote police said Mallikarjuna had taken his white Accent car bearing number KA-53-M-2359 on a business trip. “They left Bangalore in the morning and visited Mallikarjuna’s farmhouse in Sathyavara near Nandagudi. They were on their way back to the city when the mishap occurred,’’ said Hoskote DySP Shankarappa.

“Mallikarjuna had to pay money for a land he had purchased near Nandagudi. After finishing with the business, the four men spent sometime at the farmhouse before leaving,’’ another police officer said.

Mallikarjuna was at the wheels. The car was speeding along a curve near Sonadenahalli.

He attempted to overtake an unidentified vehicle and rammed into a wheat-laden lorry coming from the opposite side.

Shivakumar separated from his parents a few years ago after they opposed his marriage to a girl of his choice. He was related to MLA V Somanna.

Shivakumar’s wife has not yet been informed about the incident. The postmortem was conducted at Hoskote Government Hospital.

The lorry driver fled the spot immediately after the accident.
