The father of Azharuddin Ismail, the child actor of Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire, has demanded more cash from the producers.

The latest demand comes amid reports that the child actor, who was plucked from a Mumbai slum to act in the movie, will get less than 20,000 pound from the producers of the eight Oscar-winning film, which grossed over 123 million pound at the box-office, the Daily Mail reported.

The 10-year-old Azharuddin Ismail, who played the young Salim, the brother of lead protagonist Jamal in Slumdog Millionaire returned to his shanty home on Thursday after a dream visit to Oscar awards and Disneyland.

His 45-year-old father Mohammed Ismail, a Tuberculosis patient, said, "My son has taken on the world and won. I am so proud of him but I want more money. They promised me a new house but it hasn't happened. I'm still in the slum."

"I want the money now, it is of no use later. Boyle should take care of my son," said Ismail, who was criticised on Saturday, for slapping the child for not granting interview to some foreign journalists.

Ismail, who lives in a shack and makes a living by selling scrap, said the money given to his son was not "enough" and they needed more immediately.

Azharuddin and Rubina Ali, who hail from a slum in Mumbai played young Salim and Latika in the film.

The children shot to international fame post the success of the film, which depicts the story of a slumdweller winning agaist all odds.

The producers have set up a trust fund for the children which they will access once they turn 18. They attend an English language school for impoverished children and get a monthly stipend as well.

The producers have also promised to buy a home to the families after facing allegations that the children were not paid well for working in the film.
