Justice in 3 to 6 months: Ujjwal Nikam

Special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam promised on Wednesday to try and wrap up the trial of captured Pakistani terrorist Mohammad Ajmal Amir in the 26/11 attacks case within “three to six months”.

“The motive of the accused, who were fidayeen attackers, was to destabilise the country,” Nikam told reporters outside the Esplanade court after the police filed their charge-sheet in the case. “They chose Mumbai because it is the financial capital of India.”

The prosecution will focus on the cases that Ajmal was directly involved in. These include the MV Kuber murders, the CST firing case, the Cama Hospital firing case, the Skoda robbery case, and the Girgaum Chowpatty encounter, in which Ajmal was trapped and his colleague Ismail Khan was killed.

Nikam said that by the next date of hearing, he would seek the court’s permission to commit the case to the special court set up in Arthur Road jail for security reasons.
