Political mudslinging and the blame games played by rival political groups overshadowed the wrongdoings in the Rs7,000-crore Satyam scam, which was debated in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

The debate turned into a war of words between the Congress and new allies TDP and the Left. While the combine sought to blame the Andhra Pradesh chief minister YSR Reddy and the Centre for allowing this scam, the Congress, aided by the RPI’s Ramdas Athavle, held the then NDA government at the Centre and the TDP-led dispensation in the state responsible for not taking note of misdoings in 2003.

CPM’s Rup Chand Pal said the scam was an upshot of the complicity of some ruling party’s leaders in the state.

TDP’s K Yerrannaidu, BJP’s VP Singh and other NDA speakers also said the kith and kin of the state chief minister were involved in the scam.

Countering the allegations, Congress’ KS Rao and Arun Kumar said that instead of pointing fingers, a collective effort should be made to keep Satyam going to protect the interest of its 53,000 employees.
