The National Commission for Women (NCW) registered over 1,200 complaints of crime against women since November. Incidents of dowry harassment and cruelty topped the list, followed by rape, molestation and dowry deaths.

“Incidents of dowry harassment and cruelty top the list with 456 complaints, followed by 249 cases of domestic violence and matrimonial disputes and 190 of rape and attempt to rape,” women and child development minister Renuka Chowdhury said in a reply in Lok Sabha on Thursday.

She said that between November and January, 145 dowry deaths, 67 cases of kidnapping, 61 of molestation, eve-teasing or outraging modesty and 27 of sexual harassment at work were reported.

One incident of female foeticide and two acid attacks were also reported.
