‘I’d love to be a travelling foodie’

When Preeti Jhangiani met her husband-to-be Parvin Dabas, it was the happy discovery that they shared a love for crustaceans that got them to bond, among other things of course! For her first birthday, she says he took her for oysters to Vetro at The Oberoi, an experience she won't forget.

 “It's just been a year and a half since we got married,” she laughs, “But a good part of the bliss has been taking off on seafaring vacations (not as often as they'd like), sampling a variety of food and drink. If I had the chance, I'd love be a travelling foodie,” she sighs.  “And we, (referring to Parvin), are like adventurous roadies when it comes to food. Recently in Bali we relished Indonesian cuisine, in Bangkok we had octopus while in Egypt we partook of stuffed pigeon.”

The theory, she explains, is to eat at smaller places and not just lavish upscale joints. “Miami has the best cafes and we're hoping to go to Paris later this year and take a tour of the little boulangeries; it's going to be blissful,” she smiles, rolling her eyes.

In Mumbai, Trishna is their hangout for fish, while Bademiyan is an after-party retreat. But at home, the food is "normal ghar ka khaana." Since she is Sindhi and Parvin a Haryanvi Jat, the couple look forward to their mothers coming over and cooking traditional Sindhi kadi, sai bhaji, mutton and phirni.

Their long work schedules make Sundays laid-back. For breakfast, Preeti must have her eggs poached or scrambled, while Parvin prefers to have cereal. For lunch, there is one dish that is their Sunday fix. “Pasta,” she informs. “It’s quick to make and you can enjoy so many variations.I always have my handy variety of spaghetti and pesto sauces while I cook, picked up from our trips abroad.”

With such a foodie mind, and soul she must certainly be having her exercise regime in place. “Just a jog for me, I guess I have a good metabolism,” she continues, “But it’s Parvin who inspires me, he's really dedicated to his workouts."
