Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Thursday criticised Sri Ram Sene (SRS) president Pramod Muthalik for backtracking on his protest against celebration of Valentine’s Day.

Taking a dig at the SRS activists, Thackeray sarcastically asked, “Now whether these people will go to pubs wearing the pink chaddis they received as gifts?”

Thackeray was speaking to reporters at his Bandra residence Matoshree after the release of a CD on martyr Rajguru. He was upset over SRS’ decision to put its agitation over Valentine’ Day on hold.

Thackeray also slammed people who differ on Chhatrapati Shivaji’s date of birth. “These people cannot even remember the birth dates of their children? Are they capable of discussing this subject?” he asked.

He expressed regret over the poor state of historical places in the state. “The statues and homes of Maharashtra’s icons are in a pathetic condition. Shiv Sena is trying to put shelter over Shivaji Maharaj’s statue in Raigad but the government is doing nothing. It is shameless. Do not forget Maharashtra’s culture,” he said.
