If Maharashtra has to retain its numero uno position in the country, it needs to improve on the leadership, infrastructure and governance fronts. That was the conclusion reached at a summit ‘Maharashtra: A Step Ahead’ organised by Marathi news channel Zee 24 Taas in association with DNA on Friday.

Finance minister Dilip Walse-Patil and Indian Merchants Chamber president MN Chaini also called for better connectivity by roads, rail, air and water.

“We have neglected water connectivity. But once road works going on all over the state are completed, the issue of regional imbalance will cease to exist,” Walse-Patil said.
Chaini said Maharashtra should compare itself to developed  countries instead of other states. “We need to develop a vision for tomorrow’s Maharashtra. The state can achieve quick development if it gets a strong leadership,” he said.

Noted economist Narendra Jadhav claimed there was no recession in India. “Some industrialists have created a fake picture of recession to seek financial bailouts,” he said.
Hindustan Construction Company president Ajit Gulabchand called for campaigning all over the world for investment in the state. “We can beat recession through such a campaign,” he said.

LIC general manager Nilesh Sathe regretted the government did not have infrastructure projects in which insurance companies could invest.
