Schedule of around 200 domestic and international flights was on Thursday affected due to the dense fog that enveloped the Indira Gandhi International airport here.

At least 103 domestic and international flights were rescheduled, six cancelled, 22 diverted to other cities and rest delayed.

The flight operations at the airport were suspended for more than two hours, from 7.30 to 9.40 am in the morning due to fog, which led to diversion of 22 flights to other cities, an airport official said.

No flights could either take off or land due to poor visibility during the two hours, the official said, adding this resulted in huge backlog of the outgoing flights.

It had a ripple effect on the incoming flights, which got delayed by two to three hours.

Out of the sixteen domestic flights, nine were diverted to Jaipur and six to Lucknow, while one to Chandigarh.

Six international flights -- coming from Paris, Addis Ababa, Muscat, Beijing and Abu Dhabi -- were also diverted. Three were diverted to Mumbai, one each to Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Lahore.

After a clear morning, dense fog began to descend upon the airport at around 7 am and within half an hour, the visibility dropped to below 50 metres for both the runways.
