Come March and five Indian galleries will showcase their works at the third edition of the annual fest – Art Dubai. Savita Apte, one of the organisers of the fair
confirms, “Chemould, Bodhi, Sakshi, Project 88 and Anant have been chosen from over 500 galleries from across the globe to participate.”

Bodhi will showcase the works of well-known contemporary artists like Atul Dodiya, Anju Dodiya, Shilpa Gupta, NS Harsha, and Jitish Kallat, among others at the fair. Sharmistha Ray from Bodhi says, “The Middle East has long term potential as an art market, though Dubai is currently badly hit by the recession.”

Similarly, Sree Goswami from Project 88 agrees. “The UAE does have very big plans to promote art by constructing many art galleries and museums there.”

With regard to the effects of the global meltdown on this art fair, Savita explains, “The original concept of the fair was was to bring the best quality of art under one roof and attract collectors and buyers to a single venue. So, the original idea of an art fair still holds true. For many galleries, the fair will bring in 60 to 70 per cent of their sales. For others, participation will be a significant part of their international marketing strategy, wherein they will be able to promote their artists in the global arena.”
