The 3,683 lucky Mumbaikars, who will win the lottery for the Mumbai board of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) housing scheme, may see the process live on television.

After the Delhi Development Authority housing scam, Mhada officials plan to ensure complete transparency in the lottery process, showing it on television being an option.

HK Jawale, chief officer for the Mumbai board, told DNA that the authority was looking at options to ensure transparency in the process. “There is a tremendous response to our scheme. Lakhs of Mumbaikars have bought application forms. We are expecting an equally good response during the submission process. Since transparency is the number one priority for all applicants, we are trying measures to make the process completely transparent,” Jawale said.

He added that the authority will decide after the submission process is over on January 31.

A senior Mhada official said the lottery process will take several hours. “Tenements in 42 places are on sale in 12 categories. As per our calculations and experience, each tenement will at least have 150 to 200 applicants. Mhada will have huge display screens at the venue to ensure participants see the process clearly. Mhada used to conduct the lotteries at Rangsharada Auditorium, Bandra. But if the number of applicants is more, the authority could hire a bigger venue,” the official said.
