VADODARA: Parliament members from central Gujarat here have demanded the Central Government to reintroduced Vadodara-Mumbai-Vadodara evening flight that was withdrawn in November last year.

BJP MPs Jayaben Thakkar, Bhupendrasinh Solanki and Bharatsinh Parmar persuaded prime minister Manmohan Singh and union civil aviation minister Prafull Patel to restart the flight viewing the inconvenience faced by industrialists, NRIs and others.

"Why was the evening flight on Vadodara-Mumbai route withdrawn when the average monthly flow of passengers was 12,000 to 13,500?" Thakkar asked.

Bhupendrasinh Solanki said the reopening of flight will spur business in the region as large number of NRIs regularly visit their native places in Charotar and other parts of central Gujarat promising a good business for Air India.

Vadodara is emerging as an engineering hub of the country with the presence of international corporate houses like ABB, Alstom, Bromidier, L&T and others.

Public sectors like ONGC, IPCL, heavy water project of atomic energy department, GSFC, GNFC, GACL and various other private industrial units chose Vadodara because of its direct connectivity with Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, said the MPs.

Reintroducing evening flight of Air India on Vadodara-Mumbai route will save time and money for industrialists and businessmen who want to return the same day from Mumbai after a day's work, said Ashok Patel, president of Federation of Gujarat Industries.

The MPs also suggested to start Vadodara-Delhi flight.
